Purpose of the application

NIVILO:CLASS aims to provide easy-to-access, searchable information to users of the Nice, Vienna and Locarno Classifications available on the Internet and CD-ROM.

Requirements

The application is compatible with the following browsers:

To access the application, your computer should have one of the following operating systems:

Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Linux distributions.

The application may also function with other operating systems, assuming one of the above browsers is installed; however, tests were only carried out on the above operating systems.

Installing and launching the application

Setup for the Internet version

NIVILO requires no installation if your browser is one of those listed above.

However, JavaScript must be enabled in your browser, as detailed below.

Enabling JavaScript in Internet Explorer 6.x and 7

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options...
  2. In the Internet Options window, select the Security tab (at the top of the window).
  3. Under the Security tab, select the Internet Web content zone.
  4. Under Security Level for this zone, to enable JavaScript:
    1. If there is a slider bar, move the slider bar to Medium.
    2. Otherwise, if the security level is set at Custom:
      1. Click on the Custom Level ... button at the bottom of the page to open the Security Settings window.
      2. In the Security Settings window, scroll down until you get to the section called Scripting (near the bottom).
      3. Under Scripting there is a category called Active scripting; select the option marked Enable for this category.
      4. Click the OK button.
  5. Click the OK button.

Enabling JavaScript in Internet Explorer 8

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options
  2. In the Advanced window, scroll down until you get to the section called Security (near the bottom).
  3. Under Security select the option marked Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer

Enabling JavaScript in Firefox and Mozilla 1.x

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Options.
  2. In the Web Features tab, tick the Enable JavaScript box.
  3. Click the OK button.

Installing the CD

JavaScript support must be enabled in your browser, as described above.

To use the CD, it is sufficient to have one of the above browsers installed.

However, on Windows operating systems, the versions and availability of your browser and PDF viewer are checked when you insert the CD:

Launching the application when the CD is inserted

If the NIVILO CD is inserted but you have closed the browser,

1.                  on Windows operating systems with Explorer:
start index.hta from the root of the CD,

2.                  on Windows operating systems with Firefox:
start index.htm from the root of the CD or open it in Firefox,

3.                  on non-Windows operating systems:
start index.htm from the root of the CD or open it from Mozilla.

Startup page

From the startup page you can navigate to the most recent edition of the Nice, Vienna and Locarno Classifications.

You can navigate to an individual classification by clicking on its title in the language you require.
